Sometimes, when we want to fall asleep but simply can’t, it’s because our minds are tired, but our bodies are still wired.
After a busy day of rushing, working, caring for others, and moving from one task to the next, the body can remain charged with stress hormones and adrenaline. Even when we're ready for rest, that lingering energy can make it difficult to fully relax and drift off to sleep.
Rather than forcing the body to slow down, we can meet it exactly where it is. Through somatic movement and stretching, we give the body an opportunity to release tension, unwind stored stress, and gently settle the nervous system.
In this 40 minute gentle somatic stretch practice, you'll be guided through soothing movements designed to help release pent-up energy, invite relaxation, and prepare both body and mind for a restful night's sleep.
You may like a pillow or a yoga brick and a strap/long sock for this practice.
Please note: Because this practice invites deep relaxation and sleep, please do not listen while driving or operating heavy machinery.
Please practice loving kindness and not go beyond your bodies comfort zone in this practice. Please consult with a doctor first if you are in doubt.
